Mage PVP worst in game?

So my understanding is before I started playing this game, mages were pretty dominant in pvp with unlimited clouds and stun, but that was before my time. As a mage, all I know, is that I can't kill a 42 archer with my 72+ mage... because obviously mages need to get close to do any real damage, my shield is popped, and I'm stunned in an instant, and while stunned, dead before I am un-stunned. Yes, I have all the typical runes and gear, dark mage, crescent, double ring wands, etc.
Maybe this is working as intended, but if my storm clouds can't kill or seriously damage or stun a player 30 levels below me, and he can 1 shot my bubble, I have to conclude mages just aren't made for much pvp.
Combined with the considerably slower ability to just grind exp/contribuion in general...mainly again, because mages have to be right in the mobs face to kill high lvl mobs... I find it takes me much longer to earn the same ammount of exp/contribution that a similar level archer earns.
Please, anyone, feel free to input your thoughts and tell me how I'm wrong, and then back it up by showing me in game.

PS just a thought, in the past, other games ive played, had a pvp area where everyone that entered the area would get the same setup and loadout.. didnt matter if you were low level or high level, once you entered you were on a level playing field with all other players, of all classes. Was interesting way to see who was better at pvp, instead of just comparing who had more time to farm better gear. Not saying remove the current way it is, just an optional area for a level playing field, where any class is capable of killing any other class... or something like that. Or a pvp area that had a max item level of say lvl 30 gear,, would be fun to play in tricked out, runed, lvl 30 gear... or 20, or 10, or 40, you see the point.

Field needs a buff, if before damage in rage was not calculated correctly and the field was difficult to break any class, now it is difficult only for gunner. Maybe attack speed of cloud can be increased. Magic breath is still useless. It seems to me that whipmaster is even worse in pvp, his attacks are slower, so mage isn't worst.

Yeah, whipmaster is the worst in pvp by far. Gets outranged by every class and whenever you try to use any attack you must stand still meaning you can get attacked, so basically you die whenever you try to attack.

Also the client unsync doesn't let you attack properly, that's the worst

The only way I would win in a pvp match is by going close up to the enemy without somehow breaking my shield and just start attacking. That way the player is constantly knocked out, meaning he can’t escape and will have to eat the poison damage.

I’ve done that to Sijey and VortexWood

Though I won a couple times. VortexWood’s (archer) arrow hoards would one shot me and my shield. The only I could kill him is if he was distracted.

Sijey (gunner) I’ve killed many many times. But at the end, he learned my trick. So he kept me at a distance with stun lock and so I was doomed.

in other words, your just stating that you cant kill either of these guys unless they dont realize your coming and you can get in close. But , how about similar level? or even lower level? try pvping against an archer, if your a mage, thats 20+ levels lower then you.

If they're skilled they can dodge. I've heard of mages getting bullied by archers and gunslingers 20+ levels lower. And at the worst, they can just run and mage can't do anything.
