Stop promoting lazy / afk grinding and botting (for the future)

Post by CrazyVanilla » Wed Apr 21, 2021 12:11 am

So it has come to my attention that a lot of the higher-level enemies and areas promote lazy / afk grinding, and make botting relatively easy. By this I mainly mean standing in 1 spot, using the stormcloud and leaf storm skills, or even just hitting normally too, and being able to gain a high amount of exp and money while doing it.

Specifically these are the problem areas that come to mind:

- Caves / Stalagmites (spawns in groups of 3-4 very close together, enemies do not move around)
- #59 / Night Stalkers (spawns inside of a small cage)
- #59 / Leaflings (not as bad as the others, but still spawns a large amount of mobs in a small area)
- Factory / Mandrakes (spawns inside of small cages, right next to other mobs as well)
- Factory / Tesla Crawlers (spawns inside of small cages in groups at the same time, also spawns right next to other mobs)
- Factory / Claystones (spawns right next to other mobs, 2 spawn close together, hardly move around)
- #60 / Auroach Beetles (these are not that bad as a whole, but in a couple specific spots the player can hide and is unreachable by the beetle, but can kill them)

Suggestion / Alternative:

Basically I am just suggesting to make more areas like the shellshocker and puff monster areas. Those areas are large, open, and the spawn spots are fairly spread out. Making areas like this actually requires players to run around and kill the enemies, or in other words ACTUALLY PLAY THE GAME, rather than sit in 1 spot and press B or M or click your mouse once every 15 seconds and make nearly the same amount of exp and money.

This also will help remove the "spot" problem, as if you are required to run around and kill enemies and not just sit in 1 place, there really won't be any "spots", and group grinding will be much more prominent and accepted within the game, something I think would be very positive for the game overall.

I am not saying these areas shouldn't exist, they just shouldn't be so prominent in the game, you should be substantially rewarded for grinding in a large and open area with other players.

as a warrior player, I like this cardio, and yes, less spotting, and when using cloud, if areas are spread apart, I can run back and forth, and by the time I reach one spawner, there will be loot to pickup

Alright, so the biggest major problem of this comes from the fact that you can easily kill anything with skills, and you pretty much never take damage or only take 1 damage, so it's impossible for enemies to kill you. With the introduction of regen, it definitely made this easier to do, especially considering regen triggers every 5 seconds. (Kinda a slight oversight with regen being added)

Onto the suggestion itself, I kinda like this idea, mainly for the reason that it keeps players from being hogging up a lot of enemies. Having them more spaced out should allow more players be able to farm in one area. This should hopefully also somewhat keep players from getting more exp/money from an area than they should, in situation where there are no players in the area. The issue I do have with this however is with warrior, and how they might get less kills, due to ranged classes and wizard being able to kill the enemy before a warrior can reach.

Totally agree on this. My two cents:

- Make the game less individualist, make it more collective. We need parties in order to make the game funiest + it would decrease a lot the 'spot' thing since the players would have the possibility of leveling up in groups instead of lone wolfs. This would also add strategy to the farming process (rotations thru the map, lures, etc.

- Make the player and the monster characters smaller, this way the map would 'increase' its size and more spots could be created in order to make leveling up something more attractive and less 'lazing/afking/botting' as you mentioned.

- Stronger mobs with better drops and consequently more exp would also be welcomed.

Thanks, I'll lower the spawn rate on a few of the spots you mentioned, but increase the number of spawn points so players have to move around. It'll just be a few small changes for now, I'm doubting it'll be enough to combat it as a whole though. Also, just let me know where players are able to hide from the beetles at. (changes will be in next update.)

I'd also like to think of some other ideas to combat any botting. I like the idea of players being able to kill botters with rideable enemies, or using environment objects such as flamethrowers and such. I just need an effective way to add more of this type of stuff in, without it being potentially annoying.

Banning magic breath abusers is a good start. One person made a post about this I don't know if you've read it

Spot 2 (this whole concrete area): https://gyazo.com/94bc3a2c2d4e2ed88bf1873021b8899b

On your other comment, perhaps it would be cool to be able to heal mobs while riding them? That way its not as easy for other players to kill them? Also what about being able to do increased damage while riding them? Perhaps a percentage of the riding-players damage output?
