But what about the money they ern from gems
you obviously dont understand how wages work. emes arent a stable enough source of cash to provide a stable wage. theres gonna be times where emes wont be bought as often. robby works another job for a reason. with a lower wage and a job with no benefits, there is no way you will be able to afford healthcare and insurance and whatnot.
Wait does he have a day job? I thought emerald (and tickets obviously) could support one person, plus flashlight when he's commissioned for something
I think Robby even wrote that in one of the forum replies.

Indie game dev is my only full time job. :)

Hiring more people would have it's benefits. However, depending on the exact work that needs to be done, finding efficient ways to distribute the work is a bit harder than it sounds. Aside from that, Eliatopia isn't at a point yet where I could financially pay more people to work on it full time.

What Robby said, also it wouldn't be a good idea to have volunteers (Pretty sure coke wasn't even a volunteer and look how THAT turned out, also Oxidan)

Hiring people requires wages...WAGES, in a livable country atleast, are not that small.

you dont get it. its harder to hire people on salaries, and its even harder to trust someone with so much power. troopas pointed out how coke turned out and hes right. not everyone is trustworthy

Yeah, I mean you only got me doing stuff for you, and doing the art for Eliatopia feels more like a hobby to me despite getting paid.
