Well from what I can gather he still sucks at grinding and I have not seen the new moves in pvp.

honest to god would switch if he was good at this point, but it seems even dumb gimmick builds would be worthless with him.

I hadn't yet fought a mage in a best set with full wands. But even if he has rainbow wands, he can kill me on the hill. It's really gotten better than before.

On pvp,mages are strong, they wrre already before the update.
But for grinding endlevel monsters is still a challenge against all other classes who can outgrind them easily.
I resetted a high lvl account to mage and tested it.
With arround 400 magic points and full sacrifire it was still hard to kill newest mobs, same with saw guardians.
Especcially endlevel bosses- mages will still fail, fighting them.

To be fair, you don't exactly have the most vitality out there.

You can kill really op warrior with 1mil def and full poison 5 BUT u need to hit all 4 flames (aka stay literally next to him hitting both flames from your mouth while staying still and 2 flames from clouds) WHILE he is in poison zone from grenades so in real fight most likely you cant
