I think it is better if items in the item vendor can be retrieve like the emeralds in the emerald vendor.

Thanks for the suggestion. However, I wanted their to be a little bit of risk with using the item vendor. Also, I wanted it to act also as a way to "remove money" from the game's economy, for item that didn't sell.

The reason I chose to allow emeralds to be retrieved is that many players use real life money for them, and having them disappear would surely feel like a bit rip off. And player's may decide to simply not even use it if that was the case.
