The goo boss not regening

The goo boss doesn't regenerate for me sometimes and I accidently kill it

Is this an every time thing, or only on rare occasions? Are the smaller goos touching him?

On rare occasions the boss doesn't regen like 20% of the time when the goos are touching it

And when this happens, he doesn't regenerate AT ALL? Not like occasionally? What I mean is, it's an all or nothing kinda bug?
