It's not if the ground is thicker or not but bugs, you should contact Robby about items falling into void so in case you want to contact Robby, his contact thing is Robby@eliatopia.com I think.

i1 fell in the void in caves where the ice spitter thing is located.

also, I did this in the past, but if you stack too many things in one spot(like bullets or arrows), they begin to start falling into the void

also, other players experience on other locations where their stuff randomly falls in the void, though I cannot confirm this nor do I know the locations of where they're talking to.
