About Speedrunning Eliatopia

I've never seen anyone speedrun Eliatopia, so I figured I should tell you peeps my thoughts on speedrunning the game. See, as Charrii5 mentioned in his Everything Wrong With Sonic Origins video, where he complained about Red Eye (who is notorious for being an Anti-Speedrunner obstacle), said that speedrunners are people who know the game from the inside out. As such, I figured I would bring this up.
Awhile ago when Cinos brought up Fav's cheating ordeal, I had stated that tools such as macros, wallhacks, aimbots and cheat software aren't allowed. I hadn't dove into exploits, which speedrunners generally made use of when beating a game as fast as humanly possible. The way I put it, I'd say if a exploit can be done through human means (meaning no macros or other tools), I think those are generally allowable provided that the community decides on whether to separate glitch-free speedruns from normal speedruns. Oh, and as long as said exploits aren't game-breaking. Ultimately, however, I think speedrunning guidelines should be managed by those who know the game from the inside out, like Cinos, CV, Zero, and the lot. I'm just posting this to allow for discussion on the topic of speedrunning.

Re: About Speedrunning Eliatopia
I actually had a thought about that, since I have personally thought up of a very fast any% speedrun, and will probably try it now that you peaked my interest...only problem is that it requires someone to kill Xantis for you, which is VERY rng since it is a literal environmental element of the real world, but it still counts since that is a natural way to beat the game. Personally the first time I saw the "ending", it was legit 5 people who turned Xantis into paste, it was a world record kill of 2 seconds.
So any% is basically reaching the shard cutscene by ANY means necessary (note: by that I mean going out of bounds), and normal% would require to get every story beat naturally (Swamp, Renegades, Nature Factory, Shroom Borough, CRF, and the ancient town in proper order). We could have challenge categories such as pickup%, in which you can't buy items, only ammo...but, eh, it'd take legit ages.

Yeah, or at least with as little as you can do since you'll never know when something couldn't be gotten around with an exploit. Whereas a 100% speedrun would involve getting every Eliapedia entry and story element you could and getting all the side missions done.cinos wrote: ↑Sat Jul 30, 2022 1:26 amI actually had a thought about that, since I have personally thought up of a very fast any% speedrun, and will probably try it now that you peaked my interest...only problem is that it requires someone to kill Xantis for you, which is VERY rng since it is a literal environmental element of the real world, but it still counts since that is a natural way to beat the game.
Re: About Speedrunning Eliatopia
I made a video on getting to the first area to the last area (at the time) as a level 1 account with no outside help
So maybe that could have been considered SOME sort of speedrun

Re: About Speedrunning Eliatopia
Yeah it is really easy to speed run the game even without the help of other players or tools.
Here’s some non-tool ways to speed run and actions that should be done to prevent speed running.
1. Wizard’s protection field + gunman’s bomb or warrior’s smash
= jump on any obstacle
Solution: put a high invisible wall.
2. Gunman’s Trap
= you can use this to jump low fences or help to reach the ladder in the underground secret sewer (Area #26).
Solution: Make the trap not collide to each other so it cannot be stacked.
3.Beg or ask quest items to finish the missions.
Solution: Disable players from using traded/dropped quest items to finish the missions.
4.General and specific classes’ skills also play a big role to this because of the benefits it gives, you can actually kill high level monsters with those.
Solution: Robby should put skill points requirements for the skills to unlock and use them. For the general skills, only the coin, item, and exp sacrifice are the only one that should have skill points requirement.
For example: To unlock the warrior rage, you have to use 3 skill points to unlock it before proceeding on upgrading and using it.

Okay so I tested this and here is what I found out. The gate in alion got fixed, so it's not as simple as getting to alion and proceeding to the ancient town anymore, you 100% need to go through the door in cortex, and yet again that needs player input. We totally missed out on speedrunning pre-patch, and now we have a second 100% mandatory to defeat boss in the mix. For the actual game that is a good thing, for speedrunning it is a new obstacle.

I mean, atleast with red eye you don't die in one hit, while for the perfect eliatopia speedrun you can essentially buy nothign good against cortex, the electric fence, or xantis, you NEED either help or insane luck to avoid getting damaged.Flashlight237 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 01, 2022 4:57 amAh, it can't be as bad as Red Eye, tho.cinos wrote: ↑Mon Aug 01, 2022 4:15 amOkay so I tested this and here is what I found out.
