Isn't it supposed to be that the attacks are repulsive? It seems logical and realistic to me, if you get hit hard you take a lot of damage and fly away.

It flings you really high like really high from a light attack

The thing is the attack flings you really high up not very far but high like really high

So I am in the Scorpee room and just found that if you get hit by a Scorpee's light attack(and maybe the heavy one I don't know) and you jump it will fling you not very far but it can fling you.
